Our Expat Journey: Moving Abroad With a Baby and Big Dreams

You know that feeling you get when you’re standing on a diving board and everyone’s watching you? The anticipation, the dread, the thrill. The desire to leap, scream, and plunge headfirst into the water below — to emerge to the sound of cheers and applause, but with the worry of fumbling instead. That dizzy mix of excitement and nerves. The flutter of uncertainty.
Maybe you’ve experienced it too – the wondering “Can I really do this?” mixed with “I can really do this!” So conflicting, so motivating… That’s the feeling I got when I submitted the payment on this blog domain, hosting, platform, yada-yada.
Listen – I am all too familiar with feeling unsteady on my feet walking in a new direction. The difference here is I’m choosing to charge ahead and take on the fear, rather than turn and run in the opposite direction.
Starting this blog feels like purchasing my one-way ticket to my new home country. It’s a commitment to do the damn thing. You can see it in black and white here: Alley Across Borders. The name alone requires an action to follow it up– cross the borders, go– do!
So let’s do.
Welcome to Alley Across Borders!
I’m Alley! I’m a wife, mother, professional, and soon-to-be expat from the United States. Here, on Alley Across Borders I’ll be sharing our journey of moving abroad with my husband and our little baby, navigating life in a new country, the highs and lows of motherhood, working remotely, and all the moments in between.
If you’re curious about what it’s like to uproot your life, chase adventure, and build a new home in a foreign place — you’re in the right spot.
Keep up with this journey of moving abroad with a baby in tow easily by subscribing to my newsletter!
I’m so glad you found your way here.
A quick heads-up from Alley:
I’m a mental health counselor, but this blog is just me, sharing stories — not giving advice or doing anything clinical. If you’re a client, you’re totally not expected to follow along (but hi if you’re here!).
To all: thanks for reading — I’m so glad you stopped by. Feel free to share or say hello in the comments!
